April is School Library Month, a time to celebrate all the great things that libraries have to offer students. All month long, the American Association of School Librarians is encouraging librarians to create activities to help their communities celebrate the essential role that strong school library programs play in a student’s educational career. This year’s theme is “YOU belong @ your library,” and we think the idea applies to your digital library, as well.
Whether searching for additional resources for a research paper, prepping for upcoming finals or just enjoying a leisure read, students find endless opportunities for engagement at physical and digital libraries. The AASL has listed “Ten Reasons Why You Belong at Your School Library“:
1. Expand your world online
2. Find endless opportunities
3. Get a global perspective
4. Research anything
5. Explore new ideas
6. Enjoy great programs
7. Study in a quiet place
8. Hang out with friends
9. Feel safe
10. Lose yourself in a good book
Surely, your students have their own reasons why they enjoy your digital library, and we’d like to hear about them. This month, share your and your students’ reasons with us—via quotes, photos, videos, you name it—for a chance to win an MP3 player. To enter, post in the comments below, share your ideas on our Facebook wall, or simply email me.
At the end of the month, we’ll announce the winners and share the top reasons why your students enjoy your digital library. We hope to hear from you!
