Stylus for iPad

Are you looking for a stylus to use with your iPad?  These tools are great to use with many apps allowing  handwriting on the screen.  If you are wanting to purchase one of these, this would be a great use of your "technology fund" money that is campus based.  Check with your secretary.  They are available at Walmart, Best Buy, Amazon, and Office Depot , all  approved district vendors.

Do you know a great educator who deserves to be recognized?

TLA has joined with other educational associations in support of a statewide initiative to recognize 100,000 educators by the end of the school year. This effort is led by Texas PTA and offers a website where students, parents, and anyone can nominate a teacher, librarian, principal, or superintendent who is making a difference in the lives of students.

We encourage you all to spread the word about his campaign so that the good work of Texas educators can be recognized and appreciated. To recognize someone, just go to the campaign website http://texasbesteducator.org/.

Let’s help ensure that the exceptional work of Texas school librarians and teachers gets noticed!

Library Scope and Sequence for K-6

Caroline Schiff / Blend / Learning Pictures / Universal Images Group
The Library Scope and Sequence documents for K-6 have been updated to reflect the work that elementary librarians did on August 21, 2012.

The scope and sequence is divided into three strands and lists skills that should be learned or reinforced in the library each six weeks. The strands are:

  • Research: Using Information to Build Understanding
  • Reading: Pursuing Intellectual, Personal and Aesthetic Growth
  • Responsibility: Demonstrating Good Citizenship

There are 3-8 objectives per grade level for each six weeks. The objectives in BOLD are the minimum that should be taught at each grade level. Campuses with a smaller enrollment will be able to accomplish more of the objectives.

The scope and sequence will be given to principals on September 11.

Apps for the iPad

With so many apps for the ipad it's really hard to decide which ones are the best for the classroom.  TCEA is doing the work for you! They regularly test and list those apps that meet their standards for the classroom. They are sorted by subject and list an appropriate grade level.

Looking for free books for students in K-12 to read on the iPad?  TCEA also has a recommended list of iBooks as well.  Find both in the links below:
