ALA Youth Media Awards 2016

The American Library Association announced the 2016 top books for children and young adults this morning at its midwinter meeting in Boston.

The Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children's literature went to LAST STOP ON MARKET STREET by Matt de la Pena.

The Caldecott Medal for the most distinguished American picture book for children went toFINDING WINNIE: THE TRUE STORY OF THE WORLD'S MOST FAMOUS BEAR, illustrated by Sophie Blackall.

The Michael L. Printz Award for excellence in literature written for young adults went to BONE GAP by Laura Ruby.

Library Services will purchase a copy of the Caldecott winner for all elementary schools, a copy of the Newbery winner for all elementary and middle schools, and a copy of the Printz for all high schools.
