Grant winners!

Several MISD librarians were awarded grants from the Mesquite Education Foundation this year. Here are the winners we know about. If there is someone we missed, let us know in the comments!

Liz Payne at Poteet High School will be adding to the Native Readers Collection and purchasing books for students in their native languages. Next year students at Poteet will have access to more materials in Arabic, Vietnamese, Chinese, Urdu and others. Congratulations Liz!!!

Amy Milstead won a grant to turn the library at Thompson Elementary into an active learning environment. Thompson students can look forward to more makerspace equipment and furniture that allows for more flexibility in the library.

Amy Burris and Brenda Allen at Horn High School are the happy recipients of a grant to create a "future ready" space for their students. They will be adding collaborative work areas, comfortable seating for individuals and whole class areas with mobility and flexibility in mind.

Callie Dawson at McDonald Middle School received a grant to create a makerspace!

Congrats to all our grant winners and thanks to the Mesquite Education Foundation for supporting MISD libraries!

  1. Ms. Carroll and Ms. Guerrero, 4th Grade Teacher, received a Grant for the 1 School 1 Book Program at Hanby Elementary. Next Fall every student and staff member will receive a copy of the same book. We will all be reading the same book at the same time and each child will receive a copy to take home as well to read with their families.
