How do your teachers and students perceive your activities towards the end of the year? Are you bringing back all the books and giving the impression that the library is now closed for business?
Reading and learning must continue to the very last day of school and library services must continue as well. Are you focused on getting all of the library books back or are you focused on getting all of your readers back in to provide them with new books to read over the summer?
You may have seen this video before, but it is a great reminder of how extremely important it is that students of poverty continue reading over the summer in order to keep up with their more affluent peers and not lose what they have worked so hard to achieve during the school year.
We should be less worried about losing books and more worried about kids losing reading skills.
Make sure that these last weeks of school kids and teachers know that the library is still open for business!
